Vito Pignatelli, graduated in Chemistry, has been since 2009 President of ITABIA (Italian Biomass Association). Ha has worked at ENEA – the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development – in the biomass and bioenergy field from 1983 to 2021, holding various positions of responsibility including, since 2015, that of Head of the “Biomass and Biotechnology for Energy and Industry” Laboratory in the Energy Technologies and Renewable Sources Department. Dr. Pignatelli has been and is at present responsible, both on behalf of ENEA and for ITABIA, for a broad range of RTD and demonstration activities, including project management and supervision, on biofuels and bioenergy production and utilisation, energy crops, industrial utilisation of agricultural raw materials and technological innovation of agro-food and agro-industrial system, as well as for research programmes review and evaluation on behalf of national and international organisations, including the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Scientific Research and the European Commission. From 1999 to 2021 he has also been Member for Italy of the Executive Committee of the IEA Bioenergy TCP (Technology Collaboration Programme).
